Last month, our country manager for Agilité Solutions Italy, spoke to Designerati to share her go-to tracks for design inspiration.

Italian-born, multilingual architect, Maria Luisa’s soundtrack serves up a varied selection of her most-loved tracks. She elaborates: “I’d describe my taste in music as pretty eclectic — one moment I could be deep into some instrumental techno, the next, a spot of American folk — it all just depends on the mood I’m in at the time, and what tasks I’m getting ready to tackle next.
“One thing that struck me when scrolling through my musical additions is how often location appears as a theme — Manhattan, Morocco, We Are Never Apart — perhaps a reflection of the fact that I have always been somewhat fascinated by structures, cities, and new, interesting travel destinations.
To offer some context, we invited Maria Luisa to highlight three of the most meaningful tracks from her selection:
Manhattan, Cat Power: This song really calls into question the idea of freedom and location, telling the tale of the changing landscape in big cities — particularly New York. Historically, the ‘Big Apple’ was labelled as a light-hearted hub of liberty and possibility for travellers, so this is a bittersweet track about the feeling of belonging, and what this might mean for future generations.
Odiata per le sue virtù, Blonde Redhead: Of course, I had to include a nod to my Italian roots with this alternative rock song — which translates to “Hated for its virtues.” I find the guitar riffs always take me deep in thought and the lyrics are beautifully poignant.
Radar Detecter, Darwin Deez: A fond favourite to accompany morning runs in Milan before I start my working day, as it’s bursting with energy and positivity. Plus, I challenge anyone to listen to this track without tapping your feet or nodding the head!
