Team spotlight – meet Douglas Deptula

We’ve worked hard to recruit some of the best global talent from the world of design, build, construction and project management. Each month, we put one of our colleagues in the spotlight so you can learn a little more about their role…

  1. Describe your job in one paragraph

I help guide our clients through the design and fit out process, in order to expand their presence in the European market, with a focus on the retail and hospitality sector. We provide a tailored solution for each of our clients to ensure outstanding project delivery and I achieve this by developing a trusted partnership with stakeholders.

  1. Which one word would colleagues use to describe you?

  1. Why do you think Agilité stands out from competitors?

Agilité has one of the most client focused company cultures that I have ever seen. This ethos filters down from the top and together we pride ourselves on strong communication, being proactive and delivering on commitments. This makes for an energizing workplace and atmosphere.

  1. You have worked in some amazing places around the world. Which has been your favourite?

New York always wins. I have worked with great teams to successfully deliver projects on Fifth avenue and Broadway to name a few – and it never gets old. I love working in an exceptionally creative environment as it makes every day exciting.

  1. What’s your biggest career highlight to date?

Working with a super-talented team at Bonobos, where I was given the opportunity to help lead the expansion of a visionary and innovative retail store model across the US.

  1. The phone rings and it’s your dream client… who is it?

Patagonia, I appreciate what they represent – sustainability, an outdoor lifestyle and a quality product. I would love to have the opportunity to help them grow their presence in the European market.

  1. What key piece of advice would you give to a client planning a fit-out project on a budget?

I would say, engage the right partners early in the development process. This will create a team that is fully accountable for the project delivery.

There are a lot of stakeholders involved in a fit-out project, such as designers, architects, engineers, consultants and many more. By working collaboratively and towards the same goal, all parties can ensure the client is satisfied and returns for repeat business.

  1. What’s the best feature you’ve ever helped a client achieve in their retail space?

In retail, the best features are the ones that have the biggest impact on the space, improve the customer journey and brand awareness.

I always remember a monumental staircase and video wall that we built for the first Under Armour flagship store in Soho. It was a technically challenging installation in a historic cast iron building that required great partnerships with the client, designers and artisan fabricators. But when it was complete, it truly was a sight to behold.

  1. When you’re not at work, where are we most likely to find you?

Running on the Seine river, snowboarding in the Alps or discovering France with family and friends.

  1. What’s next for Agilité?

An increased retail market share, international expansion and the growth of our talented team.
