At Agilité, we're always on the lookout for innovative minds to join our team. This month, we're excited to feature Alberta Matin, our talented bid manager.

Read on to find out about Alberta’s passion for her work, what led her to Agilité, and how she sees our industry changing…

Hello Alberta! Firstly, tell us what inspired you to join the Agilité team...

I was looking for a company that was fresh, dynamic, solutions-based – and importantly, a business genuinely loved by its clients… naturally, that led me here! The icing on the cake is working across Europe – this brings me healthy challenges and wonderful diversity.

Can you share a little bit about what you do, and the role you play in the delivery of Agilité's projects?

I am part of a team of eight in pre-construction. Our role involves understanding exactly what our clients need and translating these requirements accurately into technical and financial understandings as early as possible. By getting this right, we support the successful transition from the tender stage to construction and ensure Agilité delivers tender stage promises.

How would you describe our organisation and the work we do to someone who had never heard of Agilité before?

We are a dynamic, pan-European fit-out company that successfully manages the challenges and nuances of working across different regions, giving us the edge over our competitors. I feel this is reflected in our client base – from global brands to local businesses, we are a truly pan-European business with happy clients

What has been your favourite Agilité project to work on, to date?

Working across regions means I must understand the details and nuances of each area; this can and does vary from region to region – that’s great for keeping me on my toes. I like that a lot and therefore really do enjoy working on all the submissions, large or small.

In your opinion, what makes Agilité stand out from the crowd?

I think the diversity within the company is quite unlike anywhere I’ve worked before and is a superb USP to have. Agilité is rich with people who come with diverse lived experiences and that translates into being a company that has unique offerings to clients.

Describe a defining moment in your career, and how it has shaped the work you do at Agilité.

A defining moment for me was leaving the public sector in 2011 and joining the private sector, it felt like a big leap of faith into a world I didn’t know, but I grabbed it with both hands. Working with Agilité on bids across Europe is fast-paced and dynamic – and my arms are open wide for this opportunity.

If a dream client were to call, who would it be and why?

Tech companies are always exciting to bid for. They are innovators and have high ESG requirements which provide fantastic opportunities to show Agilité’s strengths. For me, a company such as Google would be a dream – what they are doing in Kings Cross in London right now is ambitious, bold and would be inspiring to work on.

What one piece of advice would you give to a client looking to expand into a new country, drawing from your experiences and expertise?

Choose partners who understand the local market and its dynamics. Your partners need to provide you with flexibility, ingenuity and adaptability in a construction environment impacted by global events. They need to demonstrate they have an excellent supply chain and can work with local partners who find solutions for labour resource and supply issues.

In what ways do you envision Agilité continuing to lead the way in sustainable practices within the construction industry?

I think we will continue to be bold in striving to exceed our B-Corp Certified status. Our aim to monitor, record and reduce our carbon emissions against Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions is a priority.

How do you personally align with Agilité's sustainability values?

I have worked in huge companies, with thousands of staff where personal values were lost in a big corporate machine. Here at Agilité, we make our small contributions count across the realms of sustainability in countless ways; from supporting individuals actively contributing to World Earth Day, participating in the Tough Mudder in September,  through to raising money for the charity, Mind.

What industry changes or trends do you think will have the biggest impact on our sector over the coming year?

For our office and hospitality clients, there has been a move towards flexible and hybrid spaces post-COVID. While that trend continues, we are increasingly seeing well-being requirements high on the list of priorities for clients. We have also seen clients move into ‘Green’ buildings where the requirements for maintaining the building’s status have to be factored into the construction.

Ultimately, this requires us to continue to provide value-engineered solutions that can mitigate huge lifecycle costs and provide efficiencies. For our retail and leisure clients, we see maximising spaces within large mixed-use developments and creating flexible and tech-led environments as key.

And finally, when you’re not at work, where are we most likely to find you?

I like to work out most days and will often start the day with a run, cycle or swim…as often as I can. I love to connect with my family and close friends too!
