As part of our ongoing series celebrating the values-driven organisations within the global B Corp community, this month we're shining a light on Beyondly – an environmental compliance and consultancy business based in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
With more than 20 years’ experience helping businesses navigate everything from packaging regulations to net zero strategies, Beyondly has built its reputation on a clear and consistent belief: that doing right by people, planet and profit isn’t a balancing act — it’s the same goal. We spoke to the team about their B Corp journey, their Fund for Change, and what their 20th anniversary year has in store.
For readers who might not know you yet, tell us – in a nutshell — who you are, what you do, and what makes your business unique?
We are an environmental compliance and consultancy scheme, supporting businesses with a range of services — from packaging and waste regulations to carbon and energy compliance, as well as consultancy such as carbon foot printing, net zero target setting and ESG strategy.

Our five core values — trust, commitment, respect, passion and innovation — underpin everything we do. Our customers and employees are at the heart of our business, and we’re proud to be the only compliance scheme to hold CSE Accreditation, alongside Investors in People Platinum and Investors in Wellbeing Platinum.
What inspired you to pursue B Corp certification, and what does being part of the community mean to your organisation?
Being a business for good has always been part of who we are. Even before certification, sustainability, social responsibility and transparency were embedded in how we operate — from how we treat our people and engage with our community, to how we support our clients and partners.
Becoming a certified B Corporation in September 2022 was therefore a natural next step. Since then, we’ve seen the benefits of being part of a like-minded community — from networking opportunities to attracting both talent and clients who actively want to work with B Corps. It’s also a space where knowledge sharing goes both ways, which we really value.
Certification isn’t the end point – it’s the beginning of continuous improvement. How do you approach that in your day-to-day role/business operations?
We live and breathe our purpose to lead, inspire and educate to positively impact society and the environment. To support continuous improvement, we set annual KPIs and key results with equal weighting across people, planet and profit, with all employees contributing towards their achievement. Alongside this, we maintain a ‘business for good’ plan focused on continuously improving our impact.
What’s one initiative, project, or policy you’re especially proud of that’s helping to create a more sustainable or equitable business?
We are committed to donating 5% of our annual net profit to charitable causes and community projects through our Fund for Change. These are selected through our materiality assessment to ensure they address the environmental, social and governance issues most important to our stakeholders.

In 2025, we donated £255,208 to organisations including Recoup, Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, Smart Works Leeds and Skipton Community Sports Hub — supporting both environmental and community initiatives. We’re also proud of our move to a Net Zero office in 2022.
Have you faced any challenges on your sustainability journey, and how have you overcome them?
Our location presents a challenge, with limited access to public transport and a growing workforce — increasing from 25 employees in 2020 to over 70 in 2026. As a result, employee commuting is now the second largest contributor to our carbon footprint. To address this, we introduced a car share scheme in 2022. Employees can car share and claim mileage expenses for one day per week, creating a financial incentive while reducing emissions.
We’ve supported this with practical tools, including location maps to help staff identify potential car share partners, and a dedicated WhatsApp group. The impact has been significant — from 2,000 miles claimed in 2022 to 8,000 miles in 2024 — demonstrating how small, practical initiatives can scale over time.
Looking ahead, what’s one area of focus or innovation you’re excited about for the future of your business?
Following the success of the recycling initiative in Preston we are now replicating it with Recoup and a tailored plastics recycling campaign with North Yorkshire Council with a focus in Skipton, Beyondly’s hometown. It was launched during Skipton Eco Day which Beyondly also sponsor. We’re also excited to be working on a project this year with GoUnpackaged UK’s leading consultancy specialising in reuse and refill looking at UK Reuse for Food Service Infrastructure Modelling.
Collaboration is key in driving change. Are there any partnerships, campaigns, or communities that have been particularly valuable for you?
We’re particularly proud of our partnership with the National Oceanography Centre (NOC). This five-year collaboration aims to better understand the true impact of ocean plastics, aligning with our wider goals and enabling long-term, meaningful impact.
We’ve also worked closely with RECOUP on recycling initiatives. One example is a campaign with Preston City Council, which reached over 265,000 households. The results included a 13% decrease in contamination across plastic, glass and cans, and a 9% reduction in rejected materials at sorting facilities.
What other organisations/B Corps do you admire, and why?
We admire Fearne and Rosie — a Yorkshire-based B Corp that balances strong commercial growth with a clear commitment to its people, partnerships and community. Their fresh thinking and clarity of vision really stand out.
If another company is considering becoming a B Corp, what advice would you give them before starting the process?
Start with the B Impact Assessment. It’s free, accessible and a great way to understand where your business currently stands and where there may be gaps. The certification process is robust — as it should be — but it doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. It’s about making consistent progress rather than trying to achieve perfection from day one. We also offer B Corp consultancy services to support businesses at any stage of their journey.
And finally, what does being a “better business” mean to you personally?
For us, it’s about having a clear purpose and a growth mindset — building a business that supports customers, employees, the wider community and the environment in equal measure.
