How do you turn sustainability and responsible business commitments into the everyday decisions a company makes?
It’s easy to talk about responsible business in terms of targets, certifications and policies. The harder challenge is making sure those commitments influence what actually happens – how projects are planned, how suppliers are selected, how risks are managed, how colleagues are supported and how lessons from one project improve the next.
That challenge becomes even more important as a business grows… Agilité works across multiple countries, each with different regulations, supply chains and ways of working. The task is therefore not simply to set standards, but to create systems and behaviours that allow those standards to translate consistently into everyday delivery. As our latest Impact Report shows, responsible business increasingly sits within the mechanics of how we operate, rather than alongside them.
One of the clearest lessons from our work during 2025 is the importance of measurement. That applies to everything from customer experience and health and safety to carbon, project waste and supply chain performance. Where information is robust, we can identify patterns, challenge assumptions and make more informed decisions. Where it is incomplete, understanding that gap is useful in itself, because it tells us where we need to implement data gathering.
Take our environmental work as an example. In 2025 we repeated our project life cycle assessments, strengthened engagement with suppliers around emissions and continued developing our approach to project-level environmental reporting. At the same time, we identified project waste data and supplier emissions reporting as areas requiring further development.
Responsible business isn't about presenting a perfect picture, but about becoming progressively better at understanding the picture you actually have.
For a general contractor, many of the biggest opportunities to influence impact sit beyond our own four walls. Our supply chain affects everything from carbon and material choices to quality, safety, programme and the economic value retained within the communities where projects are delivered.
That’s why we continued to develop supplier prequalification during 2025, made the process more accessible across different languages and markets and expanded our supplier forums internationally.
The objective is not simply greater oversight, but creating better partnerships. If we want suppliers to provide competent environmental information, improve safety performance or help identify opportunities for reuse and waste reduction, the conversation needs to work both ways.
Ultimately, policies and reporting only have value if they improve delivery. During 2025 we continued using project technology to improve visibility and decision-making, introduced Operational Project Quality Audits and strengthened the way lessons learned are captured and shared.
This is where responsible business and customer experience meet. Better information helps teams identify risk earlier, stronger supplier relationships improve collaboration, robust quality controls reduce problems and consistent feedback helps prevent the same issues appearing on another project.
And, that’s perhaps the most important conclusion from our 2025 Impact Report… Responsible business is not something that happens after the commercial decisions have been made or the project has been delivered. It is embedded in those decisions: how we plan, procure, communicate, build, measure and improve.
Our challenge for 2026 and beyond continues to be making that approach increasingly consistent as Agilité continues to grow – while also asking ourselves the question on which our purpose is built: how can we optimise customer experience and minimise our negative impact?
