For readers who might not know you yet, tell us – in a nutshell — who you are, what you do, and what makes your business unique?

Richardson Media Group (RMG) is a woman-owned, B Corp certified marketing agency providing paid media planning & buying and SEO services to a diverse roster of clients across a wide range of industries here in the U.S. We’re unique in that we have consistently kept our range of services more narrow enabling us to build a network of meaningful partnerships with other agencies and consultants whose services complement our own.

B Corp - Owner

What inspired you to pursue B Corp certification, and what does being part of the community mean to your organisation?

From the beginning, I sought to bring my personal values into my business. In 2020, I first learned about the University of New Hampshire’s B Impact Clinic through my affiliation with NH Businesses for Social Responsibility. I knew I had found the entry point to achieve my goal. At the clinic I was fortunate to work alongside a team of undergraduate students who were passionate about finding a career in a values-based organization. Over the course of that semester, I began to piece together RMG’s B Corp certification, ultimately gaining a better sense of what my agency’s future purpose could look like.

Certification isn’t the end point – it’s the beginning of continuous improvement. How do you approach that in your day-to-day role/business operations?

Six years into being a B Corp, I’ve learned to be a bit more forgiving of myself as a business owner and not demand that every decision or action we take as a company fits into the common definition of what it means to be sustainable. That being said, this experience has helped me gain a better sense of what is possible for my small business to achieve, where we can influence the world for the better and how we can make a positive impact on others around us,

here in our community and beyond. Day to day, it’s definitely a balancing act between what we can do and what we should do.

What’s one initiative, project, or policy you’re especially proud of that’s helping to create a more sustainable or equitable business?

In 2025, through RMG’s membership in 1% for the Planet, we sponsored the pollinator garden at The Ecology School at Riverbend Farm, a Maine-based educational nonprofit that caters to students, teachers and other organizations looking to experience outdoor learning, regenerative farming and sustainable living. With our team’s intrinsic love of bees as our inspiration, it felt right to help The Ecology School with their pollinator garden. As of this past summer, our donation has helped them purchase the organic seeds, gardening equipment and labor required to plant, grow and maintain a robust pollinator garden.

Have you faced any challenges on your sustainability journey, and how have you overcome them?

Probably the biggest challenge I’ve faced along this sustainability journey has been having to educate people outside of the B Corp community about what it means for RMG to be a B Corp and how we embed our values into the work we do. It’s been a bit disheartening to see how few people actually recognize the important work the B Corp community does. When I first meet someone I often find myself doing a lot of explaining about the reasons why I decided to pursue certification in the first place and why they should care. Frankly, to most people B Corp certification is a “nice to have” not a “must have” and that’s not an easy discovery to overcome.

Looking ahead, what’s one area of focus or innovation you’re excited about for the future of your business?

I’m in the early stages of setting up a new company benefit for full-time team members here at RMG related to long-term profit sharing. We’ve always offered a matching 401K benefit, but over the past few years, in the hopes of reducing attrition and attracting the best talent, I’ve looked to expand upon opportunities for my employees to earn equity over time while helping them save for their retirement.

Collaboration is key in driving change. Are there any partnerships, campaigns, or communities that have been particularly valuable for you?

We are proud members of the B-1 community, meaning we hold B Corp certification while being active business members of 1% for the Planet. This is a relatively new label and a subset of the B Corp community. We’ve found this identity to be a good fit for us and plan to continue to promote our B-1 profile because it encourages us to keep pushing ourselves to do more across the sustainability spectrum.

Are there any other organisations/B Corps that you admire, and why?

I’m a huge admirer of Tim Frick, CEO of Mightybytes out of Chicago, IL. Not only has he been a generous friend and fellow agency owner, willing to answer pretty much any question I’ve had about being a B Corp over the years, but his team is literally on the cutting edge of building sustainable technology to make sure websites, data sharing, apps and content management systems use less energy and function more effectively and efficiently.

If another company is considering becoming a B Corp, what advice would you give them before starting the process?

I would tell company decision makers to temper their expectations for business growth once they achieve B Corp status. I initially thought it would move the business development needle for my agency more than it has. I soon realized that it’s not a primary point of consideration for most of our prospective clients. Of course it’s an important differentiator (similar to being woman-owned) but especially in the marketing industry, there are other key benchmarks we need to meet and surpass that are far more important to our customers and prospects than the various badges we hold.

And finally, what does being a “better business” mean to you personally?

To me, being better means doing better in all aspects of my life. I’m constantly pushing myself to learn new things, seek out new experiences and meet new people, to keep challenging myself to grow and change. Running my business is a huge part of my life, and doing it well is at the core of my identity as a leader, colleague, mentor and friend.
