Agilité delivered a 605 sqm hybrid workspace and test lab for On Running in Zürich, combining complex technical requirements with sleek finishes
On Running is a Swiss performance sportswear brand recognised globally for its innovative footwear, apparel, and cutting-edge approach to design.
With just two weeks of preparation before construction began, Agilité had to work quickly to align with the client’s tight timeline. The brief included office and lab requirements, with 16 workstations, meeting rooms, a kitchenette, and a specialist testing facility – the latter requiring complex M&E installations and robust, highly structural benches to house testing machines.
Engagement with On’s technical engineer proved invaluable, ensuring design requirements – such as electrical outlets, load-bearing specifications, and ergonomics – were incorporated into the result. Adapting in real-time to the architect’s package, we began by clarifying finishes, fast-tracking lead items, and applying value engineering to simplify joinery while upholding the design vision.
The project demanded rapid familiarisation with the client’s processes, stakeholders, and approvals process from the offset, while weekly calls, site meetings, and walk-throughs ensured continuous alignment across On’s internal teams, architects, engineers, and external vendors. Agilité’s design manager helped to translate On’s creative vision into a space that blended technical rigour with showroom-quality finishes – a shift from the original brief of a purely functional test lab.
With multiple stakeholders and direct suppliers involved, Agilité clarified responsibilities, streamlined decisions, and kept the project on track – with a presence on site throughout construction guaranteeing oversight and responsiveness at every stage.
Operating in a multi-tenant building with restrictions on noisy works required strong communication with neighbours and the landlord. We tracked progress in Procore, documented updates with Company Cam, and shared 360° walkthroughs through OpenSpace to capture progress and share updates across stakeholders in Switzerland and internationally.
Agilité also worked closely with the local supply chain to mitigate procurement risks, securing lighting and joinery locally and managing long lead times for specialist glass partitions and access control systems.
Agilité handed over the project in May 2025, meeting the ambitious schedule despite challenges around supply chains and evolving design requirements. The finished environment combines workstations, meeting rooms, and collaborative spaces with a state-of-the-art lab, fitted with heavy-duty benches, acoustic panels, and custom joinery. Snag resolution and replacement parts took longer than expected, but Agilité’s proactive management ensured the client could occupy and use the space immediately. The result is a multifunctional workplace that reflects On’s innovative culture, balancing technical performance with a refined aesthetic.
